Working with view types and duplicating views in Revit can be a bit confusing. Each way of duplicating views allows us to efficiently show specific information in our models. This tutorial explores the “How’s and Why’s” of using view types.

There are several ways for us to duplicate our views in Revit. For example, standard duplicates don’t include annotative objects created in the original view. Dependent duplicates include annotations and change based on their original view (The “master” view). Thus, they can be changed by changing the master view or a connected dependent view. Changing their geometry and/or annotative objects will change all the associated views. Duplicates with detailing include a separate copy of the master view’s annotations while sharing the same geometry.
